Product Description
In September 1861, the Metropolitan Police Department first began issuing badges to their newly hired force. The badge on this page has been designed exclusively to commemorate the first badge ever issued by MPD. Modeled after the original, this badge has the traditional MPD shape along with the U.S. Capital building featured front and center. This is a duty sized badge struck from steel dies in .102" thick solid brass with an antique silver finish.
"1861" will be engraved on the front number panel of all badges, but individuals can choose to have a specific number engraved on the back as well.
This badge is available exclusively to members of the DC AORP, and a portion of each purchase will be donated to the Dollar Sutter Family Fund. The DSFF supports widows and other dependent survivors of retired police officers from the D.C. Metropolitan, United States Park Police, United States Secret Service Uniformed Division, and the U.S. Capitol Police Departments who are members of the Association of Retired Police Officers of the District of Columbia.
It's their mission to support their members, their families, and survivors who come upon hard times and during the loss of their police officer husbands, wives, brothers, or sisters.
