The Mesquite Police Department has commissioned a badge for purchase for both active and retired Officers. Available now is a Memorial badge to commemorate fallen Mesquite Police Officer Richard Houston. This badge keeps the iconic shape of the Mesquite PD badge and features an image of Officer Houston in the bottom center, just below the star. Next to Officer Houston is the Christian Cross over a shield, as he was a devout Christian who often spread the word of Christ.
In the star located in the top center of the badge, a banner is draped across with Officer Houston's badge number, # 821. Above the banner, a vintage Mesquite patch is featured. This patch is what Richard's father wore when he was with the department. Richard's father passed away when he was young and was the sole reason he wanted to be a Police Officer in the city of Mesquite.
The badge measures approximately 3"" tall, with a two-tone polished gold and polished silver finish. The badges are curved shirt badges with a heavy duty safety pin and catch back attachment, and all will uniformly have the OFFICER rank.
